Why a frog?...and Why lava??

The idea is that the distance between the rocks is a constant. Like the difference between the terms of an arithmetic sequence or series. If you enter the correct terms the frog will jump the correct distances, and get to the other side. The presence of lava is used to heighten the tension!!

The Maths behind the applet:

a0, a1 , a2 , a3 , …, an , a n+1, … An arithmetic sequence is a list of numbers in which each sucessor term(a n+1) is the result of adding a fixed constant to the previous term(an). a0 + a1 + a2 + a3 + …+ an + a n+1+ … An arithmetic series is simply an arithmetic sequence added up. It is important to know two things about a sequence, the first term (a0) and the common difference(d) i.e. the fixed term added to each term to get the next.
